Alarmcare Medical Alert

REVIEW SUMMARY

SINCE ALARMCARE IS NOT SERVICING THE US ANYMORE, WE HAVE DECIDED NOT TO KEEP THIS REVIEW UPDATED. PLEASE DON’T RELY ON IT FOR CURRENT INFORMATION.

THIS MEDICAL ALERT REVIEW IS FOR HISTORICAL PURPOSES ONLY & WILL NOT BE UPDATED FURTHER.

In business since 1988, Alarmforce’s Alarmcare medical alert service provides your basic medical alert service needs, including fall detection, at a reasonable monthly fee. Since their services are based in Toronto Canada, we do not feel that they should be a top choice for U.S. based customers due to their limited US service area.
There are two system packages that Alarmcare offers:

1. Alarmcare Home: In-home system that uses a landline

2. Alarmcare Home with Fall Detection: In-home system with fall protection that uses a landline

PROS

Reasonable monthly fee, offers 24-hour technical support, has website chat feature, operates their own CSAA Five Diamond certified monitoring facility.

CONS

Based in Toronto Canada with limited US service areas, no true activity monitoring option, could take several days to receive the system from the start of the process since there is no online ordering, no other discounts available, website doesn’t have all the pre-sales information so have to call to get further details.

RATING: 2.5

LIKES

Flexible Monitoring Agreement – You can cancel at any time with written notice, but you must pay first three months up front.

Monitoring Center – They own and operate their own UL-Listed CSAA Five Diamond monitoring center

24-Hour Support – Alarmforce’s Alarmcare has customer service and technical support available 24 hours per day.

DISLIKES

Not U.S. Based – If you are located in the United States, we see no reason why you should work with a Canadian or other international company. You can get equipment faster, and at a lower cost, with a U.S.-based provider. Plus they only service a limited number of states in the U.S.

Systems Require a Landline – If you don’t have a traditional phone line (landline), you will not be able to use their service.

No Automatic System Tests – Most system consoles will automatically test weekly or monthly to the monitoring station, but Alarmcare offers no automatic testing.

No Activity Monitoring – Activity monitoring typically requires the user to check in with the system by pressing a button once every 24 hours. This is very beneficial as it allows you to know that your loved one is active and about each day.

They do provide a “supervision” service that will tell you if the button is out of range for more than 24-hours, but we see no real benefit to this unless you’re concerned of someone wandering off and not returning home.

No Discounts For Advanced Payments – Monthly payments are your only option. The convenience of quarterly or annual payments can be desirable, especially if you can receive a discount.

Monitoring Center – While they own and operate their own CSAA 5 Diamond central station, they do not have medically or specially trained dispatchers for the medical alert calls. They use the same dispatchers as they use for their security services.

BOTTOM LINE

Alarmforce’s Alarmcare medical alert service is based in Toronto Canada, and services limited U.S. states. For these reasons we do not feel that this should be a top choice for U.S.-based customers. They do offer a fall detection option which is nice, but they do not offer a cellular or no phone line option.  That’s critical in today’s world.  Their company owned monitoring center is CSAA 5 Diamond Certified, which we like.

Based on our most recent conversations, the reps were very friendly and informative. They provided all of the answers to the questions that we had, even though this information should have been on their website. They do have a chat feature now which was helpful for quick last minute questions.

Although our experience with this company had these results, your experience may be different. If you’re interested in this company’s services, contact them to judge for yourself.
