American Senior Safety Review

Review Summary: American Senior Safety has a well-rounded service package with a more personable sales approach. What we mean is that they appear to be more up front than most about their equipment and monitoring service provider. They also don't try to make it too difficult to find out information about their company, as many medical alert companies do.
Pros: No equipment or set-up charges, month-to-month contract, 30-day money back guarantee, pre-payment discounts, automatic monthly tests of the console to the central monitoring station.
Cons: Do not operate their own monitoring facility, have to choose between neck or wrist button when ordering, no senior discounts available, no activity monitoring option, no pill reminder option.

Likes:
30-Day Money Back Guarantee – You have to pay your first three months up front, but you have 30 days to be sure you're satisfied.
Automatic Monthly Tests – System's console will automatically test monthly to the monitoring station.
24-Hour Support – Support is available 24 hours per day. Someone is on call, so you may have to wait for a callback.
Flexible Monitoring Agreement - You can cancel at anytime.
Dislikes:
Do Not Own Monitoring Center - They do not monitor their accounts themselves, but they do work with a national monitoring center that is UL Listed.
No Activity Monitoring – Activity monitoring typically requires the user to check in with the system by pressing a button once every 24 hours. This is very beneficial as it allows you to know that your loved one is active and about each day.
No Pill Reminder Option – Having the system remind you of when to take medication is a nice feature, although not required by all. Many of these services have the main unit console provide some sort of beep reminder on regular interval to remind you of when to take your medication. The downside to this option is that it will not tell you what or how much medication to take.
No Fall Detector Option – Since diabetics can have the tendency to faint, fall detectors can be helpful because the user would be unable to press their medical emergency button.
Bottom Line:
American Senior Safety has a well-rounded service package with a more personable sales approach. What we mean is that they appear to be more up front than most about their equipment and monitoring service provider. They also don't try to make it too difficult to find out information about their company, as many medical alert companies do.
If you look at the equipment that is offered by American Senior Safety and American Medical Alarms, you'll find that it appears to be the same. When we gather information on each company, we take the information given to us by sales personnel, company literature, company websites, etc. and include that in the review. Also, equipment may be programmed differently by each company's standards or their phone reps simply have given slightly different or wrong information. These factors may be why there's a difference.
When monitoring a second person in the same home, we found that they do in fact gather separate information on the second person monitored. See our tip: Two Medical Alert Monitoring Systems For The Price of One? for more information on this type of service offering. As of this review, they are a paid corporate sponsor of a program called Vial of Life, which is basically an attempt to standardize the notification of what and where medical information is kept in a home.
We do prefer companies that monitor their own accounts in their own CSAA 5-Diamond central stations. This provides better quality control with less parties involved.
Although our experience with this company had these results, your experience may be different. If you're interested in this company's services, contact them to judge for yourself.
